Dental Implants

Dental implants replace missing teeth….In doing so, they restore esthetics, support and shape the soft tissues (cheeks) of the face and ensure proper chewing. These in turn help to improve self-esteem.

Nowadays, implants are the way to go when replacing a single tooth or multiple teeth. They eliminate the day-to-day hassle of removing and cleaning dentures. Dental implants are minimally invasive. They really have no effect on the teeth on either side of them. For this reason, they have increasingly replaced the traditional fixed bridge which involves the grinding of teeth on either side of the edentulous space…Note An edentulous space is an area in the jaw bone that is toothless i.d. lacking teeth.

The Dental Implant Process

Our office does the implant in two stages.

Stage One

The first appointment is the implant placement. This is done with a routine local anaesthetic and with nitrous oxide (laughing gas) if desired. For more information on Nitrous Oxide, please see our blogs “Nitrous Oxide….Aka Laughing Gas,” the four part series posted on August 28th, September 10th , 24th and October 7th of 2014. The implant is placed into the site of the missing tooth and left there for six months to ‘integrate’ into the bone cheap nike air max 90s. The implants used are made of titanium. The titanium implant will form an irreversible bond with the bone and replaces the root of the missing tooth. Placing an implant also acts to prevent bone loss that may occur if a tooth is removed and not replaced.

Stage Two

After six months, the implants are fully anchored into the bone. At this time, it is possible to restore them. Restoring the implant involves attaching the crown (the visible ‘tooth’ that you can see in your mouth), to the titanium implant that was placed six months previously. For more information on dental implants, please see our blogs “Dental Implants…..A Great Solution for a Missing Tooth,” posted on October 9th, 2011 and “Planning for a Dental Implant,” posted on January 21st,2013. You may also want to check out an actual implant case done in our office, “Implants…A Case Study,” posted on November 18th, 2013.

Overall the advantages of dental implants are quite clear. Dental implants:
1) Have a very high success rate.
2) Are very compatible with the bone and as mentioned previously, form an irreversible bond with the bone.
3) Are minimally invasive as compared to traditional ‘fixed’ bridges which involve grinding the teeth on either side of the missing tooth.
4) Preserve the bone where the tooth has been removed.
5) Offer great esthetics.

Considering the above, dental implants are a great solution for a missing tooth 

Usually, dental implants function like dentures in their purpose; they replace missing teeth, restore the face’s shape, allow for proper chewing and improve patients’ self-esteem. But implant dentistry differs from dentures in that implants are a permanent solution. They eliminate the day-to-day hassle of removing and cleaning dentures.

Dental Implant Services

Dr. Axelrad performs full service for dental implants – covering every stage of the process and making sure it’s painless.

How do dental implants work? The process involves attaching realistic replacement teeth to titanium posts anchored directly into the patient’s jawbone. The result is an artificial set of teeth that mimics a healthy structure, preventing bone degeneration and gum recession.

Similar to the denture process, the dental implant process usually occurs in stages, starting with oral surgery to extract the teeth, followed by the dental implant procedure after sufficient healing, continuing with a temporary cover while the implant fuses to the bone and finally loading the permanent teeth.
